Dear 3D,

Remember the experiment we did on the  white carnation and the celery.
We put the white carnation in a cup of red coloured water. We did the same for celery too.
After 2 days, these are our observations.

Some parts of the flower turn red! :)

This is the top view of the celery (stem) after being placed in a cup of red coloured water.. Those red dots are the water-carrying tubes of the celery. We cut the celery so as to see the

water-carrying tubes.

These observations show that stem of a plant transports water. This is one of the functions of a stem! You may try this out at home. Have fun!

Misconceptions on Plants, Fungi and Bacteria

Dear boys and girls,

These are some of the misconceptions some of you have about plants, fungi and bacteria.

1. Ferns cannot make their own food
( Ferns are non-flowering plants so they can make their own food.)

2. Mushroom is a non-flowering plant.
(Mushroom is a fungi. It is not a plant and it cannot make their own food)

3. Both fungi and bacteria reproduce from spores.
( Fungi reproduce from spores. Non-flowering plants like ferns and moss reproduce from spores too. However bacteria do not reproduce from spores. It reproduces by dividing itself into two)

4. Mould is a type of bacteria.
(Mould is a type of fungi)

5. All fungi cannot be eaten.
(Some fungi such as edible mushrooms can be eaten)

To Do: "Grow your own green bean plant"

Dear children,

As explained in the classroom, do not forget to grow your own green bean plant.

You need:
1 . 1 ziplock bag
2. A piece of kitchen towel
3. 8 to 10 green beans
4. Stapler
5. Some water

What you need to do :
1. Place  the kitchen towel in the ziplock bag
2. Staple the ziplock bag as shown in the picture below.
3. Place some green beans as shown in the picture below.
4. Pour some water and ensure the kitchen towel is wet.
5. Leave the ziplock bag opened. Take note of your observations on the green beans daily.
