Misconceptions on Plants, Fungi and Bacteria

Dear boys and girls,

These are some of the misconceptions some of you have about plants, fungi and bacteria.

1. Ferns cannot make their own food
( Ferns are non-flowering plants so they can make their own food.)

2. Mushroom is a non-flowering plant.
(Mushroom is a fungi. It is not a plant and it cannot make their own food)

3. Both fungi and bacteria reproduce from spores.
( Fungi reproduce from spores. Non-flowering plants like ferns and moss reproduce from spores too. However bacteria do not reproduce from spores. It reproduces by dividing itself into two)

4. Mould is a type of bacteria.
(Mould is a type of fungi)

5. All fungi cannot be eaten.
(Some fungi such as edible mushrooms can be eaten)
